The International College recently organized a trip to Yaowan Ancient Town, which is well-known as the famous saying goes “the waters of Northern Jiangsu are better than those in the south of the Yangtze River”. Forty foreign students from seventeen countries were taken to Yaowan Ancient Town to observe China's progress and learn Chinese culture. The goal of this activity is to fully implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's response to the International Students at Peking University so that international students can go to different parts of China to have a better understanding of the real China.

The students arrived at Yaowan Pier at 10am to take a cruise, enjoyed the landscape of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and learned about the Millennium Canal's history.

There are thousands of hectares of blue water and flocks of egrets flying along both banks of the river, creating a lovely picture of man and nature coexisting in harmony.
Following that, the students traveled to Yaowan Ancient Town to begin an exploration tour of the site. Yaowan Ancient Town is distinct not only from the courtyards of the north, but also from the little bridges and flowing waters of the Yangtze River's south bank. Students were drawn to the street by the spectacular display of handicrafts and woven accessories. The students had a direct interaction with the people who live near the water in Yaowan and the classical folk architectural style by stepping on the bluestone slabs.

The Wu Family Courtyard, Zhao Xinlong Sauce Garden Store, Shanxi Guild Hall, and Yaowan Post Office in Qing Dynasty are all good examples of ancient structures that have helped all countries and regions feel welcome.

The international students gained a better understanding of local customs and natural landscapes in northern Jiangsu as a result of this activity, and had a more real experience of China's development concept of "Golden mountains and silver mountains are lucid waters and lush mountains" during the journey which were full of surprises. Rahman, a Bangladeshi student, traveled the length and breadth of the town, filming the entire journey. "This is a truly magical site, with current progress and changes as well as the shadow of history everywhere," he noted.

“This is a governing method that all countries should study. I'd like to make a short film and share it with as many people as possible.”
