The International College invited professor Wu Bo from the Foreign Affairs College to give a lecture

On the afternoon of September 7th, in order to help our teachers and students understand and appreciate Chinese culture more deeply, the College invited Professor Wu Bo of the Foreign Affairs College to deliver an English report entitled “The Excellent Connotation and Characteristics of Chinese Culture” in Room 2415 of the International College Building. The whole lecture was hosted by Prof. Wu Gefei, the Dean of the International College.  

Professor Wu Bo provided a comprehensive analysis of the rich connotations and characteristics of Chinese culture through a historical, philosophical, literary, and artistic perspective. He explained in detail the unique elements of Chinese culture, such as interpersonal relationships, the way of etiquette and Xiao (filial piety: a moral obligation which stresses the importance of respecting one’s parents and ancestors), and clarified how these elements have shaped the essence of Chinese culture. To help overseas students better adapt to the life in China, he expounded upon the fundamentals of China's societal conditions, educational structure, and pedagogical concept in a simple way.

After the report, Prof. Wu Gefei made a concluding speech. He highlighted that through Prof. Wu Bo's report, we gained an in-depth understanding of the essence of Chinese culture, which is significant for the students of the International College to integrate into the life of Chinese culture and to improve their ability of cross-cultural communication. He continued that the college will keep on focusing on education on Chinese conditions and inviting more experts and professors to help the teachers and students get a thorough comprehension of China by organizing various academic activities such as lectures and reports.

The report provided a precious opportunity for the teachers and students to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. At the same time, it also enhanced the ability of the college to communicate and cooperate with foreign countries, which laid a solid foundation for the international development of our college.
