From October 21st to 22nd, the final of 2023 Jiangsu Universities Teaching Demonstration Competition for Foreign Students was held in Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechanical Technology. The course Mining taught in English by Prof. Zheng Xigui from School of Mines of CUMT won the 1st prize, and the course Python Programming taught in English by Associate Prof. Sun Jinfei from School of Computer Science and Technology of CUMT got the 2nd prize. The strength of CUMT in the education and cultivation of international students was fully demonstrated by the two professors’ excellent performance.
The competition was supported by Jiangsu Education Department, organized by Jiangsu Higher Education Association Foreign Student Education Management Research Committee, and hosted by Nanjing Medical University and Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechanical Technology. To implement the Opinions of the Ministry of Education and Eight Other Departments on Accelerating and Expanding the Opening Up of Education to the World in the New Era and the 14th Five-Year Plan of Education Development of Jiangsu Province, this competition actively promotes the plan for international youths called Studying in Jiangsu, which improves the quality of courses for foreign students.
The competition was divided into two stages: preliminary round and final round. There were two groups of participants: the group from universities and the group from vocational institutes. A total of 76 courses from 43 vocational institutes and universities in Jiangsu, were selected for the final round of the competition. In the competition, the participants were required to conduct a 3-minute lecture and a 12-minute teaching demonstration in English. Through well-designed teaching modes and interactive parts, the knowledge background, learning mode and cultural differences of the international students were also required to be fully demonstrated in their courses. Moreover, the resumed competition was live-streamed to university students, professors, and other individuals associated with educational institutions across the entire province.
For a long time, CUMT has attached great importance to the education and cultivation of international students. The university has intensified its efforts to reform the education and teaching methods used for international students and has tried to advance the “Studying in CUMT” project. The construction concepts and specific measures has developed by this project to show the university’s characteristics and actual situations. The efforts made by CUMT have been instrumental in driving high-quality internationalization, strengthening friendship, and promoting exchanges between China and foreign nations.
