2023 "Chinese Bridge" Winter Camp of the Ministry of Education for Thai Students Ends Successfully at China University of Mining and Technology

Recently, sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and hosted by China University of Mining and Technology, the 2023 "Chinese Bridge" Winter Camp for Thai Students ended successfully. The camp lasted 12 days, 29 teachers and students from Thailand studied Chinese language, explored the cultural attractions of the two Han dynasties, tasted local food of Xuzhou, learned about the science and technology frontiers of CUMT, and experienced the unique charm of large-scale Chinese enterprises. In the diversified and rich-content activities, they gained a deep understanding of scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation capabilities in CUMT, the long history of the Chinese nation, and felt the modern elegance of the high-quality development of China.

Prof. Wu Gefei, the Dean of the International College and director of International Students Management Office, gave a closing message to the students. He said that China University of Mining and Technology, with its beautiful campus environment, rich historical accumulation and outstanding superiority in talented personnel, is now actively serving and integrating into the new pattern of international development, creating a broad space for growth and success of young people from all over the world; he hoped that the students would make great efforts to learn Chinese, share their stories in CUMT and in China with friends around them, and act as "folk ambassadors" for the integration of Chinese and foreign civilizations, to promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning and building a community with a shared future for mankind. 

THANAPAT MONTREETRAKOOL, a winter camp student, described the 10-day winter camp as short but wonderful. He improved his Chinese language skills by traveling and communicating with Chinese teachers every day, and he fell in love with Chinese history and culture by visiting into the mausoleum of the king of Chu Country, the Xuzhou Museum and the Nanjing Museum. He said that he will work harder to learn Chinese, understand China better and introduce China to his family and friends. TECHOCHAI MUANGUDOM, another student of winter camp, expressed his sincere gratitude for the arrangements of this winter camp and thought that the trip to China had met all the expectations of the students, such as boarding the "lunar mining truck" in Wandering Earth and watching the robot attack and defense demonstration of the Students' Association in CUMT. He expressed great anticipation of studying in China next year. 

This winter camp has received strong support from the Chinese Teachers (Thailand) Association. Mr. Luo Zongzheng, President of the association, Mr. Zhang Long, First Secretary of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Embassy of Thailand, Miss. Zhao Yanqing, Director of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education-the Center in Bangkok, attended the farewell party of this winter camp, In addition, the camp invited Miss. Huang Sukhuan, former director of Special Policy Schools Division of the Office of the Commission for Private Schools Education of the Ministry of Education of Thailand, as a lead teacher to accompany the delegation to China. 

It is reported that the “Chinese Bridge” Winter Camp for International Students was hosted by CUMT for the first time. The holding of this winter camp will enhance mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between Chinese and Thai youths, and help the implementation of the " Belt and Road" education project. 

In recent years, China University of Mining and Technology has integrated high-quality educational resources and actively participated in the "Belt and Road" Education Action Project, cultivating 1,513 international students from the countries that participate in the initiative. The university has taken the initiative to meet the requirements and development strategies of the "Belt and Road", and is exploring the establishment of joint training projects for students in the "2+2" and "1+4" programs with the Mongolian university of science and technology, the North South University in Bangladesh, National University of Laos, and Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, etc..
