On the afternoon of March 5, Opening Ceremony for the Spring 2026 Chinese Language Program Students of the International College of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) was grandly held at the Maoyuan Activity Center on the Wenchang Campus. Students from 28 countries and regions across the globe gathered here to embark on their academic journey at CUMT. Li Honghai, Dean of the International College, Fang Kun, Vice Dean, and the person-in-charges of the colleges relevant functional departments attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Vice Dean Fang Kun.

At the start of the ceremony, Dean Li Honghai delivered an address. On behalf of all the faculty and students of the college, he extended a warm welcome to the new students and his highest respect to their parents and teachers.

Dean Li pointed out that traveling across the oceans to study Chinese and explore Chinese culture at CUMT is a journey full of courage and foresight; language is not only a key to the world, but also a bridge to understanding China.

He put forward two expectations for the new students: first, to study and practice diligently to lay a solid foundation, encouraging everyone to listen more, speak more, read more and write more both in and out of class, and to communicate in Chinese bravely; second, to be open and inclusive and integrate into the diverse community, to deepen understanding while respecting differences and forge friendships through interactions and exchanges.

Dean Li specifically mentioned that the college would hold a series of activities including language practice, cultural experience and the Perceive China program, to help students gain an in-depth understanding of contemporary China. Faced with the potential challenges of being new here, he promised that all the colleges faculty and staff would always stand by their side and provide comprehensive support and assistance. He also wished everyone academic success in the warm big family of CUMT, and to step into a broader world with Chinese as a bridge.

Subsequently, Sasha (ALEKSANDR IVANOV), a representative of senior students majoring in Business Administration from Russia, shared his insights on study and life at CUMT and encouraged the new students to actively integrate into the campus and dare to practice. Suria (OMMA SURIA KADER), a new student representative from Bangladesh, expressed her vision for her upcoming studies. She stated that she would cherish this precious learning opportunity, strive to enhance her Chinese language proficiency and cultural literacy, and contribute to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Bangladesh.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Vice Dean Fang Kun delivered a message to the new students. He emphasized that language is a bridge for communication, and culture is a bond for the soul. He urged all the students to shoulder the mission of promoting mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations, and wished them a fulfilling and unforgettable experience.

Amid warm applause, the opening ceremony came to a successful close. Immediately after the ceremony, the college launched a series of orientation education activities for the new students, covering the universitys history and profile, safety management, cross-cultural communication and other aspects. These activities aim to help international students adapt to the environment more quickly and smoothly start a new chapter of study and life in China.
